Lofthus shows the Hardanger scenery at its most beautiful, with a marvelous view of the Folgefonna glacier. It is easy to understand why Lofthus was one of Edvard Grieg's favorite haunts. A stroll among the fruit trees is an experience to be recommended at any time of year. The old stone church dating from 1250 is also worth a visit (open from 1 May to 15 Sept.), Lofthus boasts the tradition-rich Hotel Ullensvang and several other pleasant attractions. Lofthus is also a good starting point for trips on the Hardangervidda mountain plateau.

Lofthus is in the Ullensvang district, which has approximately 3.550 inhabitants and covers a area of 1.395,0 km2. The main attractions are Hardangarvidda mountain plataau. Folgefonna glacier, Husedalen valley and 500,000 fruit trees. Spring reveals a pink and white symphony of apple blossoms contrasting sharply with green hills and snow capped mountains, the fjord acting as a back drop.
